...is under considerable pressure. In order to withstand this pressure, the metal of the bowl is hammered by hand after coarse pressing. In this stage of production, the precise manufacturing of the border of the bowl is most crucial. The foot consists of highly polished aluminium casting.
Tuning device and mount for the skin are made out of bronze, also chromed like the steel parts.

...has to be renewed once in a while, which shouldn’t be a problem due to the design. A particular feature of the Viennese timpani is the use of goat skin.
The skin is just sharpened and not split, because it is not appropriate for splitting. The organic structure of the skin is preserved, due to the fact that it is not thinned out or impregnated during fabrication. In spite of the precise manufacturing, each instrument is unique.
